Levels of Play
Please pay attention to the league descriptions as they have changed. All our leagues have levels of competition, and encourage you to be social, so we have modified the division names. Players and teams may be modified or asked to change leagues depending on total sign ups and experience level.
- Sapphire League - If you have never played kickball or it's been a while, and have a low to medium understanding of the basic rules and skills, or just want to take it easy, the sapphire league is for you! This league is meant for a casual experience, for those who want to get back into this sport every once in a while or try it for the first time. Players in this league will generally have some knowledge of the game but probably need common reminders about the specifics here and there. It is understood that abilities will vary and hopefully grow over the season (though not required). The priority is to get your body moving a bit, get a little better each time from where you began, and have slower paced, low stakes games.
- Average Skills for the Sapphire League:
- Some familiarity with the game but likely hasn't played much or ever. Likely needs reminders on the rules game to game and some specifics. May have participated in a few Stonewall Sports seasons
- Throwing speed and distance for pitching and fielding is low to medium
- Still getting used to being able to catch and kick the ball reliably
- Still getting to know strategy, placement, coordinating with teammates
- Emerald League- If you have played kickball with Stonewall before or another league a few times, have been on teams that have been at the top of our past social leagues, and/or are confident in your athletic ability but may not have all the skills down pat perfectly, Emerald league is for you! This league is meant for a more involved game experience, for those who know kickball pretty well and can decently hold their own on the field. Players in this league will likely have some wins under their belt and an eagerness to succeed, but are looking for a league that is more of a medium average play level. If you know and enjoy the game but still feel like your skills could get better, the green league is a great choice.
- Average Skills for the Emerald League:
- You know the rules pretty well, even if you might forget to tag back or foul out sometimes still
- Getting better at catching fly balls but not expecting to get it every time
- Kicking distance is stronger, but still not as reliably placed
- Can usually make it to each base pretty quickly
- Able to throw the ball a good chunk of the way down the field, more accurately to other teammates
- Topaz League - If you have played kickball with Stonewall regularly, know you can kick, catch, field, and decide plays reliably, and have won a few games in social, intermediate, or competitive leagues in the past, the Topax league is for you! This league is a great place for players and teams who routinely beat other teams in most other leagues, but still feel like they could use some refinement before being at the most advanced level. Players in this league likely have been on the same team for a while, or plug into new teams easily. If you're wanting to push yourself but not fully ready for highest level play, the Topaz league is a great choice.
- Average Skills for the Topaz League:
- Players are in sync and calling out to each other to coordinate plays
- You can reliably modulate your kick strength and direction, and make it 1-2 bases each time
- You can catch 50-75% of the balls that land in your area, and then quickly get the ball to other fielders
- You infrequently or never forget to tag back, pass the orange base, or look for multiple outs
- You are making more dynamic plays and moving around the field frequently to get players out
- Ruby League -If you are confident with the rules, have mastery over the basic and advanced skills of kickball, routinely play with Stonewall or have consistent wins over most other teams, Ruby League is for you! These are high-paced games meant for those who know the game well or who have cleared the previous levels and are starting to become more advanced. Players in this league generally are prepared with standard kickball strategies and tactics, and play to win. From those of you who have cleared the ranks of other Stonewall leagues to those of you eager to jump in and play hard, Ruby league eagerly awaits you!
- Average Skills for the Ruby League:
- Ability throw to most other players anywhere on the field with speed and precision
- Able to pull off double or triple plays
- Routinely can kick and make it multiple bases or home runs
- Reliably can catch most balls landing in your area
- Can quickly make calls about advancing bases and strategizing plays with teammates
Shirts
As part of our mission to keep programs affordable, to save on space and waste, and per your feedback we got in 2025, we will be moving to a one Stonewall Shirt per year system. If this is your first event of the year, you will get your shirt at this program, and will be asked to bring it for any other leagues you play in for 2026. If you'd like to order an extra one, please reach out to slc.operations@stonewallsports.org.
How to Sign Up
- I plan to create a team: If you plan to create a team you will need to register as a team captain first. Then you can tell your friends to register as a team player and join your team. PLEASE BE ADVISED - Incomplete teams will be merged with other incomplete teams or have free agents added - we cannot have low stacked teams as it takes away spots from other interested people.
- I plan to join a team: If you already know with which team you are going to play on, you will need to register as a team player. Keep in mind that you can't randomly join any team; captains may ask that a player be removed from their team prior to the close of registration. We encourage that you discuss with each other what teams and players you intend on joining. Captains can email slc.operations@stonewallsports.org to move players onto/off their teams. Players may be added to incomplete teams based on registration quantities in order to give the most people the chance to play.
- I want to play with another player or players, but our group isn't enough to make a full team: Also totally doable. Please sign up as a Small Group Member, and in the registration details, follow the instructions to make a Small Group and enter the name of the person you want to play with when the form asks you to. You'll get placed on a team either with another small group, a team that needs more players or several free agents!
- I want to play but I don't have a team/don't have someone specific I want to play with: That's fantastic! This league is about making new friends! Register as a Free Agent. We will do our best to balance teams and help make it a fun time! You can always reach out
Player Fund
We're happy to formally launch our player fund program. If you or someone you know would like to participate in this program but can't because of cost, we are building a player fund to be able to partially or fully help offset the cost of registration for a portion of our registered players per program. The amount and quantity of Player Fund Awards for each program will vary based on demand and available funds, and for now we are limiting one player fund award per person per year, unless there are extra unused funds.
Apply for the player fund here: https://forms.gle/BHBovJozvJqDmHyEA
For questions about the fund, please email slc.operations@stonewallsports.org
