Captains
If you plan on being the captain of a team, you will need to register first and then have players register under your team name. An email will be sent with additional team information and responsibilities as captain. Captains and Co-Captains are also required to attend a Captains meeting!
Players
- I plan to create a team: If you plan to create a team you will need to register as a team captain (see above). Then you can tell your friends to register as a team player and join your team. PLEASE BE ADVISED - Incomplete teams will be merged with other incomplete teams or have free agents added - we cannot have low stacked teams as it takes away spots from other interested people.
- I plan to join a team: If you already know with which team you are going to play on, you will need to register as a team player. Keep in mind that you can't randomly join any team; captains may ask that a player be removed from their team prior to the close of registration. Captains can email slc.sports@stonewallsports.org to move a player from their team but, only after the captain has communicated with the player first and explained why. Also, if you do not have the number needed by the time that registration are filled then we will fill up your team, giving more people room to play. So if you want certain people to play with then have them join with you and fill your team up.
- I want to play but I don't have a team: That's fantastic! This league is about making new friends! Register as a Free Agent. We will do our best to put friends of friends on each others teams and make sure they are fair!
Levels of Play
- Unicorn League (Beginner, Recreational Volleyball Level) - If you have never played sand volleyball, are focused on recreation and fun rather than scores, or have a low to medium understanding of the basic rules and skills, the unicorn league is for you! This league is meant for a casual experience, for those who want to get back into this sport every once in a while or try it for the first time. Players in this league will generally have some knowledge of the game and basic skills for hitting the ball over the net and passing to teammates with varying success, but it is understood that abilities will vary and hopefully grow over the season (though not required). The priority is to get your body moving, socialize with your team and other players, and have fun, casual games.
- Mermaid League (Some Experience, Intermediate Level Play, Volleyball Level B, B+) - If you are familiar with the rules, have played one or two volleyball leagues with Stonewall or in the past, and are getting more consistent in your volleyball skills, with an eye for low to medium-stakes but challenging set of games, the intermediate league is for you! In this league, most players will have a good grasp of the basic and technical rules of the game, and are able to reliably serve and keep the ball in bounds, bump/set/spike the ball with a decent amount of aim, and can usually keep a rally going for a while, though results may vary. If you're more than a beginner but still feeling like your volleyball successes come and go, the mermaid league is the one for you!
- Phoenix League (Intermediate Level Play, Volleyball Level BB, BB+) - If you are very familiar with the rules, are confident in your volleyball skills, have had demonstrated success over teams in previous social leagues, while still not quite at the speed and intensity of the highest level of play, the phoenix league is for you! In this league, most players will have a good grasp of the basic and technical rules of the game, and reliable skills with ball control, aim, and moving around the court. Players will likely be thinking about different strategies and placements, and may not have mastery over bumping, setting, spiking, blocking and serving, but are aiming for improvement and victory. If you're wanting to push yourself, and don't mind rising from the ashes, phoenix league is a great choice.
- Dragon League (Advanced, Volleyball Level A, AA) - If you are confident with the rules, have mastery over the basic and advanced skills of volleyball, played in high school/college teams, or have had demonstrated wins over previous intermediate teams, dragon league is for you! These are high-paced, advanced games meant for those who want an ever bigger challenge and the most movement. Players in this league generally are prepared with standard volleyball strategies and tactics, have high athleticism, and a big fire to win. (If you are at AAA level or at the top of amateur/bottom of pro leagues, you may find yourself too advanced for this organization, but we encourage all participation). If you're confident in your skills and ready for our most advanced league, sign up dragon league!
